Biden pushes Israel to accept Gaza ceasefire

US president says 'time for this war to end' as he meets Israeli leaders

Biden outlines new Israeli proposal to end conflict

US President Joe Biden has outlined a new Israeli proposal to end the conflict in Gaza, saying it is "time for this war to end".

Biden met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders on Thursday, and said that he had discussed the proposal with them.

"I believe we have a path forward that can lead to a ceasefire," Biden said. "I have discussed this with Prime Minister Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders, and they have indicated to me that they are prepared to accept this proposal."

The proposal includes a ceasefire that would take effect within 24 hours, followed by negotiations on a more permanent solution to the conflict.

Biden said that the ceasefire would be monitored by the United Nations, and that the US would work to ensure that it is implemented.

The Israeli government has not yet formally accepted the proposal, but Netanyahu said that he was "encouraged" by Biden's remarks.

"We are committed to finding a way to end this conflict," Netanyahu said. "We believe that this proposal can help us achieve that goal."

The conflict in Gaza has been ongoing for over a month, and has claimed the lives of over 2,000 people.
