Farewell to a Giant: John "Earthquake" Tenta

From Sumo to WWE Legend

June 7, 2006

The wrestling world mourns the passing of John "Earthquake" Tenta. The 6'7", 487-pound behemoth made an unforgettable impact on the industry during his time in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in the 1980s and 1990s.

Before his wrestling career, Tenta was a highly successful sumo wrestler. He captured the attention of the WWF in 1989 when he defeated Ultimate Warrior and joined forces with Jimmy Hart. As Earthquake, he became a force to be reckoned with, squashing opponents with his massive frame and devastating moves.

Tenta's most memorable feuds involved Hulk Hogan, with whom he battled for the WWF Championship. He also formed the Natural Disasters tag team with Typhoon, winning the WWF Tag Team Championship in 1991.

While Earthuake's popularity waned in later years, he remained a beloved figure in the wrestling community. He opened a wrestling school in Florida before his untimely passing on June 7, 2006.

John Tenta's legacy will live on as one of the most iconic and feared wrestlers in WWF history. His size, strength, and charisma made him an unforgettable character who will always be remembered by fans.
