Landon Donovan, the American soccer legend, has officially announced his return to the sport. The 42-year-old Donovan, who retired in 2014, has signed with his former club, the Los Angeles Galaxy, on a one-year contract.

Donovan, who was born on March 4, 1982, in Ontario, California, is widely regarded as the greatest American male player in the history of the sport. He is the MLS's all-time leading scorer, with 145 goals, and has also scored 57 goals for the United States national team. Donovan has also won four MLS Cups with the Galaxy and was named the league's MVP in 2009.

Donovan retired from soccer in 2014 after a successful career that spanned 15 years. He played for the San Jose Earthquakes, Bayern Munich, and Everton before joining the Galaxy in 2005. Donovan helped the Galaxy win four MLS Cups and was named the league's MVP in 2009.
